Every day I speak with businesses that are unable to fundamentally shift their mental paradigm from hiring someone internally to outsourcing. The industry or geography is really irrelevant; it always comes down to one simple thing. Trust.

How can you trust someone to do the right thing on your behalf or to really be working for you when they are not physically with you? Ironically, I think that the truth is that we can’t even control the people that do physically work in our employ. Anyone who has found their employees playing online solitaire can attest to this illusion.

Regardless of whether people work physically with you or apart from you, for me, it comes down to competency and results. Either they shine or they tarnish. They either are trustworthy, or they are not.

At the end of the day, I am thankful that there are so many fantastic people in my circle of business that are dedicated to what they do. I trust completely. They make my clients lots of money, and if they are doing it in their bathrobes…power to them.
